Tata SUVs

Tata Motors has confirmed that it will launch 2 all-new SUVs, 1 hatchback and 1 sedan in the next 24 months. The information has been revealed by CEO and Managing Director of Tata Motors, Guenter Butschek at the Nexon EV’s launch event. Though, he didn’t reveal the names and details of the upcoming products.

At Auto Expo 2020, that’s slated to begin on 5th February, the carmaker will showcase the Tata Gravitas 7-seater SUV. The vehicle will also mark debut of the 170bhp, 2.0L turbo Kryotec diesel engine and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox sourced from Hyundai. The same engine-gearbox combination will be offered on the BS6 Tata Harrier that will also be put up on display at the biennial event.

Tata Compact SUV

The Tata Blackbird (codename) compact SUV could be the second product from the homegrown carmaker. Reports suggest that the SUV will share some of its components (including platform) with the Chery Tiggo 5X, which is sold in Chinese market. The Blackbird will lock horns against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It’s likely to go on sale in 2021. The Tata H2X concept based mini SUV will also be unveiled at the Expo.

The carmaker will also bring in the electric iteration of the recently-launched Tata Altroz hatchback that will hit showrooms early next year. Similar to the Nexon EV, the hatchback’s electric version will use the brand’s Ziptron electric powertrain. Though, its battery capacity and power figures could be different. The Tata Altroz EV will be priced below Rs 10 lakh.

Tata Altroz EV India Launch

Tata is also working on a mid-size sedan that will be based on the Alfa modular platform. While details of the vehicle are scanty, it’s likely to borrow some design bits from the Tata E-Vision concept that broke cover at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The new Tata sedan will take head-to-head against the cars like Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
