2 Tata Cars To Get Turbo-Petrol Engine, DCT Gearbox

Tata Motors had revealed its plan to update its models in every two months under its ‘New Forever’ philosophy. That said, the carmaker will keep rolling out new variants, special editions or add new features to its existing models. As a part of the strategy, the company will bring in the turbo-petrol variants of the Altroz premium hatchback and Harrier SUV. Both models have already been spotted testing multiple times. While their official launch timeline is yet to be revealed, the Tata Altroz and Harrier turbo-petrol are likely to come in coming months.

Talking about the Tata Altroz turbo-petrol, the model will receive a 1.2L engine pushing out a peak power of 99bhp against 141Nm of torque. The new, more powerful motor will be made available with a 5-speed manual gearbox along with a new dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Tata Altroz Specifications

The carmaker will source a 7-speed DT-1 dual-clutch gearbox from Punch that’s claimed to be more refined and efficient than the existing automated manual transmissions (ATMs). The new DCT unit will also be introduced on its upcoming premium range of vehicles including mid-size sedan, MPV and mid-size SUV.

Reports suggest that the Tata Nexon compact SUV might also be one of the early recipients of the brand’s new DCT automatic gearbox. At present, it comes with 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engines and 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT gearbox options.

Tata Nexon facelift

The Tata Harrier turbo petrol will source its power from the brand’s new 1.5L petrol, direct-injection engine that’s likely to offer power around 150bhp. It’s the 4-cylinder version of the 1.0L Revotron turbo engine that does duty in the Nexon. If reports are to be believed, the Harrier turbo-petrol automatic model will come with paddle shifters and get a ‘Sport’ mode. Transmission choices will include a manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
