Kia Sonet subcompact SUV, that recently had its world premiere, is slated to go on sale in India during this festive season. Its official price announcement is likely to be made next month (September, 2020).
While its key features have already been revealed by the carmaker, its variant, dimensions and engine details recently emerged on the web. As per the leaked scan, the Sonet model lineup will come in two trims – Tech Line and GT Line – and multiple engine and gearbox combinations.
The overall length, width and height of Kia Sonet will stand at 3,995mm, 1,790mm and 1,647mm respectively. While its length is exactly similar to the Hyundai Venue, Kia’s compact SUV is 20mm wider and 57mm taller. It will sit on a 2,500mm long wheelbase and has a ground clearance of 211mm. The Sonet will offer a boot space of 392-litres. Compared to the Venue, the new Kia subcompact SUV has 21mm higher ground clearance and 40-litre more luggage area to offer.
Engine setup of the Sonet will include 4 units – a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0L turbo petrol, 1.5L diesel and 1.5L diesel with VGT (variable geometry turbocharger). The 1.2L gasoline motor, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, makes a peak power of 82bhp at 6,300rpm and 115Nm of torque at 4,200rpm. Read – Upcoming New Kia Cars In India
The turbo-petrol unit pushes out 118bhp at 6,000rp and 172Nm between 1,500rpm – 4,000rpm. It can be had either with a 6-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) or a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The 1.5L diesel motor has been tuned for generating two different power outputs – 99bhp at 4,000rpm with 240Nmat 1,500rpm – 2,750rpm and 113bhp at 4,000rpm with 250Nm at 1,500rpm – 2,750rpm. While the former will be offered on lower variants with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the latter one will be available on higher trims with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
While the 1.2L petrol engine will be offered in the HTE, HTK and HTK+ variants, the turbo-petrol motor can be had with iMT in HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+ trims and with DCT automatic gearbox in HTK+ and GTK+ variants.
The oil burner will be available with manual gearbox in THE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+ trims and with automatic transmission in HTK+ and GTK+ variants. The Kia Sonet will be made available in 8 colour schemes – Steel Silver, Clear White, Gravity Grey, Intense Red, Aurora Black Pearl, glacier White, Beige Gold and Intelligency Blue.
