The Kia Seltos enters into the fast growing and highly competitive compact SUV segment, which is dominated by its Korean cousin, the Hyundai Creta. In India, the Seltos also rivals the Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster and the entry and mid variants of the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the MG Hector . The Hyundai Creta is available in the price bracket of Rs 9.60 lakh – Rs 15.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Despite being the most expensive, the Creta is currently the best-selling SUV in its category. Kia has smartly priced the new Seltos, which should help the brand to make strong presence in the highly competitive segment. Loaded with several high-end features, the Kia Seltos is available in 2 trims and total of 16 variants (petrol and diesel) with 6 engine-gearbox combinations. While the Petrol range starts at Rs 9.69 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.99 lakh, the diesel Seltos is priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 15.99 lakh .

The Kia Seltos is available in 3 engine options – a 1.5-litre Smartstream petrol, a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel and a 1.4-litre T-GDI turbocharged petrol. While the petrol engine is good for 115bhp and 144Nm, the oil burner produces 115bhp and 250Nm. The turbocharged petrol engine is capable of producing 140bhp of maximum power and a peak torque of 250Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, a 6-speed torque convertor for diesel, a CVT automatic with 1.5L petrol and a 7-speed Dual-clutch with the 1.4L T-GDI petrol.

The Hyundai Creta is available in 3 engine options – a 1.4-litre diesel, a 1.6-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre petrol. While the smaller capacity diesel unit is good for 89bhp and 220Nm, the 1.6L engine produces 126bhp and 260Nm of torque. The gasoline unit is capable of producing 122bhp and 151Nm of torque. The Kia Seltos 1.4L performance model is claimed to deliver fuel economy of 16.1kmpl in manual and 16.2kmpl in dual-clutch transmission. The 1.5L petrol engine is available in manual and CVT options, which are claimed to return 16.4kmpl and 16.3kmpl respectively. The oil burner delivers an ARAI certified fuel economy of 20.8kmpl and 17.8kmpl in manual and automatic versions respectively.

The petrol version of the Hyundai Creta is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 15.29kmpl. On the other hand, the 1.4L U2 CRDi and 1.6L U2 CRDi diesel models return an impressive mileage of 21.38kmpl and 19.67kmpl (MT) – 17.01kmpl (AT) respectively.

In terms of proportions, the Kia Seltos is 4,315mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,620mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,610mm. Compared to the Hyundai Creta, the Seltos SUV is 45mm longer and 20mm wider. In fact, the SUV has 20mm longer wheelbase than the Creta. It comes with a ground clearance of 190mm, which is sufficient enough to tackle the Indian road conditions. The SUV offers a boot space of 433-litres, which is 28-litres more than that of the Creta. The Hyundai Creta measures 4,270mm, 1,780mm, 1,665mm in length, width and height respectively. While the wheelbase stands at 2,590mm, the ground clearance is 190mm. The SUV offers a luggage carrying capacity of 405-litres.

The Seltos premium SUV shares most of the styling cues from the SP concept, which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. Upfront is a signature Tiger-Bose grille, sleek LED headlamps and daytime running lights that run all the way from the corners to the centre. It has a faux skid plate and slim LED fog lamps. At the side, the SUV has clean lines, body cladding and slighly sloping roof. While the Seltos design is aggressive in nature, the Hyundai Creta offers elegance and style. It gets hexagonal chrome grille, halogen projector headlamps with prominent fog lamps, dual-tone bumper and sculpted hood. On the sides, the SUV has clean lines, dual-tone wing mirrors, body cladding and flat roof. The rear profile is dominated by aggressive bumper, split LED headlamps and roof-integrated spoiler.
