The Toyota Innova Crysta has been one of the bestselling MPVs for more than 2 decades. The MPV dominated the premium MPV segment, thanks to the lack of competition. However, things could change as Kia Motors is all set to launch the globally popular Grand Carnival MPV in India. Scheduled to be launched on February 5, 2020, the Carnival will come as a premium alternative to the Innova. In this article, we compare the engine specifications, dimensions and other details of the Kia Carnival and the Toyota Innova Crysta.

In terms of proportions, the Kia Carnival is 5,115mm in length, 1,985mm in width and 1,740mm in height. The MPV is around 380mm longer and 150mm wider than the Innova; however, the later is 55mm taller than the Carnival.

The Kia Carnival comes with a wheelbase of 3,060mm, which is 310mm longer than the Innova. Going by the dimensions, it is clear that the Carnival is significantly bigger than the Crysta. The bigger dimensions translate into spacious cabin.

Kia Carnival Vs Innova Specifications

Kia will launch the Carnival with a BSVI compliant diesel engine. It will receive a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that is capable of producing 200PS of power and 440Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The Toyota Innova Crysta is available with 2 BSVI compliant engines – a 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder diesel and a 2.7-litre 4-cylinder petrol. The diesel engine is capable of producing 150PS of power and 343Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

The Kia Carnival will be priced significantly higher over the Innova Crysta. Both models are available with captain seats for the second row, split-folding third row seats, automatic air-conditioning, cruise control and power adjustable driver’s seat. In the International markets, the Carnival is available in multiple seating options (7 to 11 seats). In India, the MPV will be offered with 7 and 8 seat options. The Innova comes with 8-way power adjustable driver-seat, while the Carnival will have 12-way power adjustable driver’s seat and 8-way power adjustable front passenger seat with memory functions.

The top-spec Kia Carnival comes with up to 8 airbags, while the Innova Crysta top-end model gets up to 7 airbags. Both models get ESC, ABS with EBD and hill start assist. The Carnival will also receive adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

The Kia Carnival is fitted with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The MPV will also receive Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car solution. On the other hand, the Innova gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Both models get separate Air-Con vents for the front and rear occupants; however, the Kia Carnival will get 3-zone climate control. The Carnival will come with electrically sliding doors, which can be operated from the roof-mounted controls by the driver.
