Mahindra XUV500, Scorpio, Marazzo To Get BS6 Petrol Engines
Mahindra & Mahindra will introduce BS6-compliant petrol engines to its models that sell over 1000 units on monthly basis. The select models will include Mahindra Marazzo premium MPV and XUV500 and Scorpio SUVs.
The Mahindra XUV500 had received a mid-life update last year with improved styling, new features and updated diesel engine. The facelifted version of the SUV was made available in 9 diesel variants and a petrol model. The petrol AWD variant, however, was discontinued in September, 2019.
Currently, the Mahindra Scorpio comes with two diesel engines (2.1L and 2.5L) only. Talking about the Mahindra Marazzo, the premium MPV is available with a 1.5L diesel engine that’s good for 120bhp and 300Nm. Considering the demand of petrol models in the MPV segment, the home-grown carmaker will launch the Marazzo with a new petrol motor.
Mahindra is working on a few new petrol engines ranging from 1.2L to 2.0L turbocharged. The former has already made available in the Mahindra XUV300. The Marazzo MV is likely to get the new 1.5L turbocharged petrol motor pushing out power around 120bhp and torque over 200Nm.
Mahindra cars such as Verito, Verito Vibe, Xylo and Nuvosport will not be upgraded for the upcoming BS6 emission norms. The Mahindra KUV100 will receive an electric powertrain instead of any diesel engine.
