All-New Mahindra Thar Petrol Version In The Works?

Mahindra Thar Adventure

We informed you earlier that Mahindra will launch the next generation Thar, Scorpio and the XUV500. In fact, the company has started testing the new Thar and Scorpio. Both these SUVs will make debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The next generation Mahindra Thar will be based on the new platform, which also underpins the current TUV300 and the Scorpio.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar is rumoured to receive a new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which could also power the next gen Scorpio in different state of tune. While powering the next Thar, the new diesel engine could produce around 140bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. This is significant increase from the current 2.5-litre engine producing 105bhp.

What’s more interesting is that the 2020 Thar could also receive a petrol engine for the first time. It is expected that the next Thar could be powered by a 2.2-litre petrol engine that also powers the XUV500. This powertrain is capable of producing 140bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. Featuring new platform, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will also grow in size. It will also feature wider front tracks and will have tuned suspension mechanism. The new chassis will reduce the wheel-articulation ability by around 10 percent. The next-gen Thar will be equipped better safety features including ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, reverse parking sensor, speed alert and seat belt reminder.
