Urban Cruiser: Maruti To Start Supply Vitara Brezza To Toyota
Maruti Suzuki has officially announced that it will start supply of the second model – the Vitara Brezza compact SUV under the alliance. For people not in the know, Toyota had launched the Glanza hatchback based on the Maruti Baleno in 2019 as part of Suzuki and Toyota’s global partnership.
The new compact SUV will be called the Urban Cruiser under the Toyota nameplate. The Toyota Urban Cruiser is most likely to be launched in August 2020. The Glaza hatchback is basically the re-badged version of the Baleno. On the other hand, the Urban Cruiser is likely to receive significant design changes to distinguish itself from the Brezza.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser will receive new soft body parts such as new bumpers and grille. The company’s won’t make any changes to the sheet metal used and the headlamp and tail-lamps. Adding to it, the SUV could also get the same alloy wheels as the Maruti’s Brezza. Inside the cabin, the compact SUV is likely to get new brighter colour schemes and different graphics.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser will be based on the Brezza facelift, which was launched at the 2020 Auto Expo. The updated model is available in single petrol engine, which is a 1.5-litre K15B. This engine is capable of producing 105bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. Only the automatic model comes with mild hybrid system.
If reports are to be believed, the manual version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser could also receive the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) mild-hybrid technology. In the Brezza, the mild hybrid version with AT gearbox is more fuel efficient than the manual version. Similar to the Glanza, Toyota could opt of introducing the higher variants of the SUVs. The company is also likely to offer 3 year/ 1 lakh standard warranty with the Urban Cruiser. The Brezza is available with2 year/ 40,000km warranty.
