Maruti Futuro Details

The sub-4 meter SUV segment will witness the arrival of multiple new models along with the facelifted versions of existing models. Maruti Suzuki will introduce the new-gen Brezza in April, while Toyota’s Urban Cruiser will also receive an upgrade in the next few months. Both models will share the design changes & feature upgrades. Maruti Suzuki is also preparing a new Coupe SUV, which could be the production version of the Futuro E Concept. The new model will be based on the HEARTECT platform and will come with a strong hybrid system. It will rival the higher variants of the Hyundai Venue and the Kia Sonet.

Hyundai is preparing the new Venue facelift that has been spotted testing multiple times. The new model is reportedly to be launched by mid-2022. It will receive brand’s new design language, which we have already seen on the Creta facelift & the new Tucson. The small SUV could also receive an N-Line variant. The engine options won’t receive any changes.

Tata Motors is also developing the next generation Nexon compact SUV, which will be based on the new ALFA modular platform. The new model will retain the existing engine options, which will be tuned for better performance & efficiency. Moreover, the SUV will get an automatic gearbox – most probably a dual-clutch transmission.

Mahindra will introduce the updated XUV300 before the end of 2022. It will come with revised exterior along with a significantly updated interior. The SUV is likely to get the existing engine options with manual and AMT gearbox options. On the other hand, Jeep will launch a sub-4 meter SUV in our market by 2023-24. It will be based on the Stellantis CMP platform that underpins the soon-to-be-launched Citroen C3.

Hyundai will give a major design upgrade to the Creta SUV. It will be launched in the second half of 2022 and will receive the brand’s new design language. Moreover, the SUV will get high-end features like ADAS & a 360 degree camera. The SUV won’t receive any mechanical updates.

New Renault Duster

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV is preparing a new mid-sized SUV, which will have two different versions. The Maruti’s version, codenamed YFG and Toyota’s version – codenamed D22, will be based on Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture). The new models will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant and will be equipped with Toyota’s hybrid powertrain. Both models will be launched during festive season, Diwali.

Tata Motors is developing a new mid-sized Coupe SUV, codenamed Blackbird, which will be based on the Nexon platform. It will first arrive in a pure electric avatar; however, the coupe SUV will also get a 1.5L turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo-diesel engine. Mahindra is also working on a new mid-sized SUV, which will be called the new XUV500. It will be based on the modified X100 platform that underpins the XUV300. The new model will also receive hybrid and electric powertrains along with the standard ICE.

Honda and Citroen are also working on their respective SUVs for the Indian market. Honda’s mid-sized SUV is likely to arrive in 2023. It will be based on new City platform and is likely to be offered with petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrain options. Citroen’s mid-sized SUV, codenamed CC24 is likely to be based on the CMP platform and will share styling cues from bigger SUVs including the C4 and the C5.

Renault has also confirmed that the next generation Duster will arrive in India; however, launch timeline is yet to be finalised. The new model will be based on the Renault-Nissan alliance’s CMF-B platform that underpins the Renault Sandero. It will be offered with a strong hybrid system.
