It is no secret that Maruti Suzuki is preparing a new compact SUV, which will be positioned alongside the Vitara Brezza. It is expected that the new model will be a more premium alternative to the Vitara Brezza. It could be the production version of the Futuro-e Concept, which was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo.
Codenamed Maruti YTB, the new model is likely to be based on Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform that underpins the Baleno, Ertiga and the Ciaz. The Brezza is based on the Suzuki Global C platform that underpins the larger S-Cross. It is reportedly to be the sportiest Maruti SUV, and will have a more SUV-coupe design. The new Coupe SUV will aim at younger audience.
The report further claims that the new Maruti YTB Compact Coupe SUV will sit above the Brezza in the brand’s portfolio. It will rival the higher-spec variants of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300 and the Tata Nexon. It will be sold through NEXA premium dealerships. The new model is expected to be equipped with new high-end features. For cost saving, the new Compact SUV Coupe could share the switchgear and some features with the Baleno facelift and the Brezza.
The upcoming Maruti YTB Compact Coupe SUV will be offered with a single petrol engine option. It is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with a stronger hybrid with a greater degree of electrification. This will help in achieving higher fuel efficiency.
Maruti Suzuki is also working on a wide range of new and heavily updated models in the country. The company plans to launch 5 new SUVs including the new Brezza, Jimny 5-door, A mid-sized SUV, new YTB Coupe SUV and a 7-seater SUV. MSIL will also launch the updated Baleno facelift, new-gen Alto, new Swift and the new S-Cross.
