Nissan Micra To Be Replaced By A New Compact Electric Car

Nissan has announced to introduce an all-new electric model in the international markets. To be based on a new CMF-BEV platform, the new EV will replace the Micra hatchback. Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance has announced to invest a EUR 23 billion in electrification over the next five years.

The new Nissan Micra electric will share the new CMF-BEV platform with the upcoming Renault 5. The platform will be introduced in 2024 and will be able to hold enough batteries to return around 400km of range. According to the Alliance, the new platform will be used to form around 2.5 lakh vehicles annually by the Nissan, Renault and Alpine brands.

In a statement, the Alliance stated that the new platform would cut down costs by 33 percent and power consumption by 10 percent. There will be five electric platforms including the new CMF-BEV. The Alliance had introduced the CMF-EV platform that underpins the Nissan Ariya SUV and the new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric for international markets.

The Alliance will introduce a new platform specific to vans. There will be a new platform for Japanese-style micro Kei cars and the budget CMF-AEV platform. The later was used to produce Dacia Spring city car, which is the re-badged Renault Kwid. The company said that these 5 platforms will be used to develop 35 new cars by 2030.

Speaking on the announcement, Ashwani Gupta, Nissan’s CEO, said, “This all-new model will be designed by Nissan and engineered and manufactured by Renault using our new common platform, maximising the use of our Alliance assets while maintaining its Nissan-ness.”

He further said that this is a great example of the Alliance’s ‘smart differentiation’ approach. “Succeeding our iconic Micra, I am sure this new model will provide further excitement to our customers in Europe,” Gupta further added.
