Mahindra XUV500 Discontinued; Return As Creta Rival In 2024

Production of the popular Mahindra XUV500 SUV has finally come to an end. One must note that the model has been discontinued on a temporary basis. If reports are to be believed, the XUV500 will return to our market as a five-seater model to challenge Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and MG Astor. In the company’s model lineup, the new Mahindra XUV500 will sit between the XUV300 and XUV700. Its launch is likely to happen in early 2024. Several Mahindra dealers have already stopped taking bookings for the SUV after the launch Mahindra XUV700.

The new Mahindra XUV500 (codenamed S301) is likely to be designed on the extended version of the XUV300’s platform. Earlier, it was planned to be co-developed alongside the Ford SUV using the B772 platform. With the abrupt end of Ford-Mahindra joint venture, the Indian carmaker will have to rework on the strategy. The SUV’s new model will be designed by Mahindra Automotive Design Europe (M.A.D.E) team headed by Pratap Bose.

2021 Mahindra XUV500 Launch Date

For power, the SUV’s new 5-seater model is likely to use the revised version of the 1.5L diesel engine that does duty in the Mahindra XUV300. The updated diesel motor will comply with the stricter BS6 phase II emission norms that will be enforced in 2023. The SUV model lineup will also be offered with the 1.5L turbocharged mStallion petrol motor generating power close to 160bhp. The overall length of the new Mahindra XUV500 will be around 4.2 or 4.3-meters.

Prices of the new XUV500 are expected to start from Rs 10 lakh for the entry-level variant to 17 lakh for the top-end trim. Its arch rivals – Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos – are currently available in the price range of Rs 10.16 lakh – Rs 17.87 lakh and Rs 9.95 lakh – Rs 18.10 lakh respectively. All aforementioned prices are ex-showroom.
