Upcoming Hyundai Cars – New SUVs, MPV, EV

Here is a list of upcoming new Hyundai cars to be launched in the Indian market in the next 1-2 years. The list includes facelifts of its existing models, all-new models and electric cars.

Hyundai Creta Facelift

Korean automaker, Hyundai will launch an all-new Creta facelift for the Indian as well as Indonesian markets. The 2022 Hyundai Creta facelift has received several updates in-line with the brand’s new Sensous Sportiness design philosophy. It features the brand’s new parametric grille and newly designed LED headlamps, which we have already seen on the new-gen Tucson.

The interior remains largely identical to the existing Creta; however, it gets new features including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster sourced from the 7-seater Alcazar. Mechanically, the new Creta will remain likely to identical to the existing model. The engine options will include a 1.4L turbo-petrol, a 1.5L turbo-diesel and a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol.

Hyundai will also launch the new Venue facelift, which has already been spotted testing in Korea. The vehicle will receive Tucson-like face, featuring a newly-designed parametric grille, new LED headlamps with LED DRLs, and updated bumpers. It will get new alloy wheels and revised tail-lights. It is expected to receive minor changes in the form of new colour scheme and upholstery. Hyundai could also add new features that are missing in the current model.

The Venue facelift is most likely to retain the existing engine set-up comprising of a 1.2L NA petrol, a 1.0L turbocharged petrol and a 1.5L turbo-diesel. While the 1.2L NA engine produces 83bhp and 113Nm of torque, the turbo unit is good for 118bhp and 175Nm of torque. The turbo-diesel engine produces 99bhp and 240Nm of torque.

Transmission choices include a 5-speed MT with 1.2L petrol, a 6-speed MT as standard, an iMT and 7-speed DCT with 1.0L turbo-unit. Similar to the Sonet, the Venue diesel could also receive an automatic gearbox option. With 6AT, this engine should offer 113bhp and 250Nm of torque.

Kona Facelift

Hyundai will launch the facelifted version of the Kona EV in India in early 2022. It will come with updated exterior and interior along with new mechanical changes. The SUV comes with new front fascia with a new closed grille, new DRLs, and new sharper headlamps with high-tech inner bezel that incorporates multifaceted reflector (MFR) technology. It will have new vertical air-inlets, revised lower bumper with new air-intake, revised rear bumper, new horizontally-stretched rear lamps, etc.

The new model is 40mm longer than the previous model. It gets a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument console and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluelink connected car solutions, etc. The Hyundai Kona EV facelift is offered with two different battery packs – 64kWH and 39.2kWh offering 204PS/395Nm and 136PS/395Nm. While the former is claimed to offer 484km range, the later offers a range of up to 305kms. The SUV comes with shift-by-wire system that enables operation of the car simply by pressing buttons to switch driving modes. It has smart adjustable regenerative braking system. The battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 47 minutes using a 100 kW DC fast charger.

2022 Hyundai Tucson India

Hyundai has started testing the next generation Tucson in India. The SUV comes with bold exterior design, featuring new Sensuous Sportiness design language. It gets new DRLs, new headlamps and new geometrically designed grille light up in 5 different jewel-like triangles of light on each side. Other design highlights include new alloys, blade-line tail-lights, LED bar connecting the quad tail-lights, new lower bumper, a faux skid plate, a rear window wiper, etc.

Inside the cabin, the SUV gets new steering wheel, a dual-screen infotainment system that has a 10.3-inch display for climate control, air quality monitoring system, etc. The SUV gets a 2.5-litre inline 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 190bhp of power and a peak torque of 260Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The hybrid version has a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with an electric motor. This powertrain offers 230bhp and 350Nm of torque. This model will use CVT gearbox.

Hyundai will launch the IONIQ 5 electric SUV as a CBU model in India in 2022. It is built on Hyundai’s dedicated BEV architecture called Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This platform will also underpins the upcoming Ioniq 6 sedan and the Ioniq 7 SUV. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is offered with two battery sizes – 72.6kWh and 58kWh. Both comes with rear-wheel or all-wheel-drive layouts. The 72.6kWh battery version is claimed to offer a maximum range of around 470-480kms. It supports 800V battery technology, which gives ultra-rapid charging. The Ioniq 5 is compatible with up to 220kW DC charging, which allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

The top-spec Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive layout that offers a combined power of 306bhp and a peak torque of 605Nm. The crossover is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in just 5.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 185kmph. The entry-level variant with 58kWh battery has a 169bhp, single motor. This rear-wheel-drive model accelerates to 100kmph from zero in just 8.5 seconds.

New MPV

Hyundai is likely to launch a new 7-seater MPV to rival the likes of the Suzuki Ertiga and the Mahindra Marazzo. Rumoured to be called the Hyundai Stargazer, the new MPV will be produced at the Hyundai’s production facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This facility will also act as an export hub to several markets.

The new model is reportedly to measure around 4.5 meters in length, making it longer than the Creta. We believe that the new model could sit on Alcazar’s wheelbase that is 2,760mm, around 150mm more than that of the Creta. The new Hyundai Stargazer is expected to be offered with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. While the former is good for 113bhp and 145Nm of torque, the turbo-diesel engine produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are likely to be on offer.
