It is no secret that Ford and Mahindra are jointly working on a wide range of SUVs and an all-new MPV. The new MPV will be sold under the Ford nameplate, and will be based on the Mahindra Marazzo’s platform.
The Mahindra Marazzo is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that is capable of producing 121bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. A new media report claims that the Ford’s version of the Marazzo MPV will be powered by Mahindra’s bigger and more powerful 2.2-litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engine. This engine recently debuted in the Mahindra Thar, and offers 132bhp of power and 320Nm of torque.
The new 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine is also expected to power the next-gen XUV500 and the all-new Scorpio, which are scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2021. However, this engine will be tuned to offer different power and torque for XUV500 and Scorpio. It is reported that this engine could produce close to 180bhp for the next-gen XUV500 and around 160bhp for the new Scorpio. Details about the gearbox options for the Ford MPV are not known, but it will have a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Similar to the Thar, the new Ford MPV could also receive a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The new Ford MPV will be built alongside the Marazzo at Mahindra’s plant in Nashik. The MPV is expected to feature a completely different design with Ford’s family styling elements. Not just exterior, the new Ford MPV will have completely different interiors with similarities with Ford’s global models. The vehicle will also receive Ford SYNC infotainment system and will offer multiple seating options.
The duo is also developing an all-new mid-sized SUV, which will be launched under the Ford nameplate. The Ford C-SUV will be based on the front-wheel-drive monocoque platform, which will soon debut in the new XUV500. Adding to it, the joint venture is also readying an all-new B-segment SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks. This SUV will receive the Mahindra’s new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Moreover, the Ford EcoSport will soon get a new 1.2-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine.
