Groupe PSA is ready to introduce Citroen brand in India early next year. The first model from the French carmaker will be the Citroen C5 Aircross, followed by Citroen C21 subcompact SUV. The company is also planning to foray into the electric car segment sometime in 2022.
Codenamed eCC21, the first small electric SUV from the company will be put up against the Mahindra eKUV100 and the upcoming Tata HBX concept based mini SUV. Prices of the new Citroen electric SUV are likely to start from Rs 8 lakh.
The new Citroen electric SUV will be manufactured at the CK Birla Group’s Thiruvallur based facility in Tamil Nadu. Just so you know, PSA entered into a partnership with CK Birla Group in 2017. The report further states that the company’s second eco-friendly offering will be a flexi-fuel small SUV that will come with a 1.2L petrol engine with ethanol blends starting from 27% to entirely on the biofuel. Based on the C-Cube platform (smart car architecture), the CC21 small SUV will be designed and developed especially for emerging markets. India might serve as exports hub for such vehicles.
After the CC21 SUV, Citroen will mark its entry into the subcompact SUV space with the CC24 (codename) in 2022. The new sub-4-metre SUV will lock horns against the cars like Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300. The subcompact SUV will be followed by a compact sedan that will take on the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor.
