Citroen Berlingo XL 7-Seater MPV Spotted Testing in India

Citroen’s first product, the C5 Aircross will be launched in our market in Q1, 2021. Interestingly, the brand’s popular people-mover – the Citroen Berlingo XL MPV has been spotted testing in India.

The current generation Berlino XL was introduced in the European markets in 2019. The MPV is on sale in multiple international markets. This popular people mover has typical boxy-shape, but has trademark Citroen styling elements such as split headlamp setup and signature Citroen grille.

The Citroen Berlino MPV is based on a new platform, which is basically the mix of PSA’s new EMP2 architecture and the previous-gen MPV’s platform. In the European markets, the new Berlino is available in two versions – standard and longer. While the former is 4.4 meters long, the longer version is called Berlingo XL that measures 4.75m in length.

The Citroen Berlino XL is a 7-seater MPV, offering bench type of seats for second and third row. Customers can also opt for the captain seats for the second row. The new MPV is available in multiple countries under different Groupe PSA’s brands such as Opel Combo Life, Peugeot Rifter, etc.

The 7-seater Berlingo XL is available with 2 engine options – a 110bhp, 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre DV5 diesel. The diesel engine offers two states of tunes – 102bhp and 130bhp. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are on offer.

It is quite early to comment whether the Citroen Berlingo XL will come to India or not. The company could use this MPV to test the engines and gearboxes for the upcoming made-in-India products including a sub-4 meter SUV, a compact hatchback and a new sedan. The company will launch the first made-in-India product, codenamed C21, a sub-4 meter SUV in the second half of 2021.
