The first model from Toyota and Maruti Suzuki collaboration will officially arrive in the second half of 2019. Toyota will introduce the re-badged Baleno hatchback, which will receive cosmetic design changes and better equipped cabin. Not just an hatchback, Toyota will also launch a sub-4 meter SUV based on the Vitara Brezza. Similar to the re-badged Baleno, the Toyota’s version of the Brezza won’t receieve any mechanical as well drastic design changes.
It was speculated that Toyota will introduce the re-badged Brezza in 2019, which is not likely to happen. It seems like the Toyota’s sub-4 meter SUV will only arrive in 2020. It is expected that both Toyota’s version of Baleno and Vitara Brezza will come equipped with BSVI compliant engines. Maruti Vitara Brezza is currently available in single 1.3-litre diesel engine option. This engine won’t receive any update to meet the upcoming BSVI emission norms. In fact, Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce a new 1.5-litre diesel engine that will replace the existing 1.3-litre unit.
Moreover, Maruti Suzuki is also working on the petrol version of the Brezza. The petrol-powered model is expected to receive a new 1.5-litre K15B petrol or a 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine. It is expected that the Toyota’s version of the Brezza will only come with petrol version as the diesel versions post BSVI norms will cost Rs 2 lakh more than the existing model. Toyota will also provide the Corolla sedan to MSIL. The company will re-badge the model and will introduce as a petrol-hybrid sedan in the country. Not just product sharing, the two automakers will also develop new platforms, electric cars and technologies for India as well as international markets.
