Maruti Suzuki and Toyota will introduce multiple products in the Indian market in the next couple of years. The first model co-developed by Suzuki and Toyota for India will be introduced before Diwali 2022. Moreover, the brands will aim to launch 4 SUVs during this festive season –
New Maruti Brezza
Maruti Suzuki has officially announced to launch the new Brezza in the country on June 30, 2022. The new model will come with significantly revised design and new interior along with mechanical upgrades. The new model will be based on the modified version of the Global C platform that underpins the new Vitara. The SUV will have new front design and completely revised rear profile.
The new Maruti Brezza will receive significant changes inside the cabin. It will sport a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, new instrument console, automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, a factory-fitted sunroof, connected car tech, TPMS, 6 airbags, hill hold assist & ESC. It will be powered by a new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder K15C dualjet petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 137Nm. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
New Toyota Urban Cruiser
Toyota will also launch the new Urban Cruiser SUV in August 2022. It will receive changes in line with the new Brezza; however, the SUV will look significantly different from the donor SUV. The new model will receive significant design changes, all-new interior and a new engine-gearbox combination. The new model is also expected to achieve 5 star safety rating at Global NCAP (outgoing model gets 4 star safety rating).
The new model will also share the interior features and specifications with the new Brezza. It will be powered by a new 103bhp, 1.5L Dualjet K15C petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options.
Toyota Hyryder
Japanese automaker will unveil the long-awaited mid-sized SUV on July 1, 2022. Codenamed D22, the new mid-sized SUV is reportedly to be called the Toyota Hyryder or the Corolla Quest. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. The new model will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based plant.
It will be based on heavily localised TNGA-B or DNGA platform that underpins several global products. The new SUV will be produced using a combination of suppliers from Suzuki and Toyota. The new Hyryder will have design and interior similarities with the global Toyota Corolla Cross. The new Toyota Hyryder SUV is likely to come with two petrol engines – one with a mild hybrid system and another with a stronger hybrid system. The lower-spec variants are likely to receive a 1.5L petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. On the other hand, the stronger hybrid unit will come with a bigger battery pack and electric motors.
Maruti YFG
Toyota will supply the new D22 SUV to Maruti Suzuki, which will be re-badged to be sold via NEXA dealerships. Codenamed YFG, the new SUV will also be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based plant in Karnataka. The new model will look different from the Toyota’s SUV, and is likely to resemble the global Suzuki A-Cross. The new model will share the engine options and features with the Toyota D22. Moreover, spy images suggest that the new model could also share some of the features with the new Baleno hatchback.
