The new Toyota Hyryder SUV is expected to be launched in August 2022, during festive season. The new mid-sized SUV will be manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi based plant. Previous reports suggest that the new SUV will be manufactured on the same production line which was earlier used for the Yaris sedan. Toyota will also supply the new SUV to Maruti Suzuki, which will sell the re-styled model via NEXA dealership.

The new Toyota Hyryder SUV will be based on the heavily localised TNGA-B or DNGA platform that underpins wide range products in global markets. The new SUVs will be produced using a combination of suppliers from Suzuki and Toyota. It is reported that the bulk of the suppliers are from Maruti Suzuki’s set of component makers. On the flip side, Toyota will supply critical systems for the development of new models.

Toyota Hyryder – Hybrid Powertrains

The new Toyota Hyryder SUV is likely to come with two petrol engines – one with a mild hybrid system and another with a stronger hybrid system. The lower-spec variants are likely to receive a 1.5L petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. On the other hand, the stronger hybrid unit will come with a bigger battery pack and electric motors.

The strong hybrid version could run only in EV mode, which should improve the fuel efficiency as well as performance. TDS Battery (Toshiba Denso Suzuki) has already started manufacturing battery system in Gujarat. It is expected that the battery tech for the stronger and mild hybrid system will be supplied by TDS Battery.
