Toyota Exploring Maruti Baleno Based Crossover For India – Report

We reported earlier that Toyota is planning to launch 6 new models in the country in the next 2 years. The company will introduce the refreshed Glanza and the Urban Cruiser in the first half of 2022. The Japanese brand is also developing a mid-sized SUV, codenamed D22, which will be launched during this festive season.

The mid-sized SUV is jointly developed by Suzuki and Toyota, and will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Moreover, the re-badged Ertiga and the Ciaz – called Rumion and Belta – are also likely to be launched in our market. Toyota is also working on an all-new C-segment MPV, codenamed 560B which is reportedly to be launched in 2023.

Maruti Futuro Specs

It is no secret that Maruti Suzuki is working on a new crossover, which will be based on the Baleno hatchback. A new media report claims that Toyota is also exploring to launch a crossover version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback in the country.

Details about the new crossover are yet to be released. Few media reports claim that the new Baleno based crossover will be positioned against the Tata Punch. MSIL is also developing a Coupe SUV, which will be positioned above the Vitara Brezza. This SUV Coupe will challenge the higher variants of the Hyundai Venue and the Kia Sonet. It could be the production version of the Futuro-e concept, which was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The report claims that the future mid-sized SUV and the C-segment MPV will come with Toyota’s hybrid technology; offering an electric motor with the internal combustion engine. The new Baleno based crossover could also receive a hybrid powertrain. The Maruti Suzuki’s Coupe SUV is reportedly to be introduced in 2023.
