Several new UVs (Utility Vehicles) have been planned for the early next year. Here’s a brief on the upcoming new SUVs and MPVs, which are scheduled to launch in the initial months of 2022.
Maruti XL6 7-Seater
Maruti Suzuki will give a mid-life update to the XL6 MPV in January 2022. This time around, the model will receive minor cosmetic changes and feature upgrades along with the BS6-compliant 1.5L diesel engine. The MPV is also reported to come with the 7-seats layout featuring a bench type seat for the middle row passengers. It could be named – Maruti XL7. Compared to its 6-seater version, the 7-seater model will be slightly longer, taller and more spacious.
New-Gen Maruti Vitara Brezza
India’s top-selling subcompact SUV – Maruti Vitara Brezza – is all set to enter into its new generation early next year. Reports suggest that the new model will see a release near around 2022 Auto Expo (i.e. February 2022). Major changes will be made to its styling, interior and underpinning. Based on the Heartect platform, the compact SUV is reported to feature 1.5L K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine with the stronger 48V hybrid system and the new BS6-ready 1.5L diesel motor.
Kia KY
Kia India is planning to foray into the three-row vehicle segment in early 2022. While the automaker hasn’t yet revealed the name and details of the new model, it’s likely to be a 7-seater MPV based on the Seltos’ platform. In terms of pricing and positioning, the new Kia MPV will sit between the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta. Under the hood, it’s likely to employ 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engine making power worth 113bhp with 145Nm and 250Nm of torque respectively.
New-Gen Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up to launch the XUV700 in coming months, which will be followed by the new-generation Scorpio. The SUV has been spotted testing multiple times and several interesting details have already emerged on the web. It will come with improved styling, better equipped interior and new engine setup. The new Mahindra Scorpio will be made available with the 2.2L turbo diesel and 2.0L petrol engines that will deliver power close to 158bhp and 150bhp. It will come with both manual and automatic gearbox and 4WD system (reserved for higher trims).
Hyundai Casper
Hyundai Casper, the upcoming new mini SUV from the South Korean carmaker, is ready to enter into production on 15th September 2021. The final model is reported to debut later this year and its India launch might happen in early 2022. In the micro SUV segment, the Casper will take head-to-head against the Maruti S-Presso, Mahindra KUV100 and the upcoming Tata HBX. It will be designed on the K1 platform and its reported to come with the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.1L petrol (reserved for the lower variants) engine options.
