SsangYong, a subsidiary of Mahindra, has released design sketches of its upcoming SUV, which is codenamed X200. Design sketches reveal a tough looking mini off-roader, which seems inspired by the new-gen Ford Bronco. The SsangYong X200 has a boxy design, retro-styled round headlamps and overlanding capabilities.
The company claims that the SsangYong X200 features the ‘brand’s newly created design vision and philosophy, presenting the value and future direction of its new products.” The SUV is designed on the brand’s new ‘Powered by Toughness’ design language, which we have already seen on the recently announced J100 mid-sized EV.
The SsangYong X200 is claimed to get robust underpinnings, similar to the Korando, but in a modern way. The sketches of the SUV reveal that the off-roader draws inspiration from the Jimny and the Wrangler. The front fascia has the quirky grille design with retro-styled circular headlamps, wide wheel arches and a long wheelbase. It gets five-slat grille, big bumpers, open-top with foldable cloth and massive fenders.
Details about the powertrain options for the SsangYong X200 are yet to be revealed. It is expected that the SUV will get a standard ICE option along with electric powertrain option. The electric powertrain could be shared with the recently announced J100 EV.
The production version of the SsangYong X200 is expected to make global debut in the next 1 year. The SUV won’t make its way to our market. Media reports claim that the US based vehicle importer HAAH Automotive Holdings is set to submit letter of intent next week to acquire the debt-ridden SsangYong Motor Company.
