Top 5 New Cars To Buy This Diwali Season

The festive season is just around the corner and several carmakers have already started rolling out new models to boost their sales. Here, we have listed top 5 all-new cars/SUVs that you can buy this Diwali season. Three of them have already been launched in the market, and a couple of them are ready to hit roads.

1. New-Gen Mahindra Thar

The second-generation Mahindra Thar will surely be the top choice among enthusiasts. The off-road SUV has been made available in 13 petrol and diesel variants with three roof-top options – Hard, Soft and Convertible. The entry-level AX petrol Std (6-seater with soft top) variant costs Rs 9.80 lakh and the top-end LX diesel automatic (4-seater with hard top) has been priced at Rs 13.75 lakh (all, ex-showroom).

Deliveries of the 2020 Mahindra Thar will commence from 1st November, 2020. The new Thar receives significant cosmetic and feature upgrades. It can be had with either a new 2.0L turbo petrol (152bhp) or a 2.2L diesel (132bhp) engine. There are two gearboxes on offer – 6-speed manual and automatic. The new-generation Thar is claimed to posses better off-road capabilities than the old model.

2. MG Gloster

Morris Garages recently rolled out its fourth offering for the Indian market – the MG Gloster. It’s a premium 7-seater SUV that takes on Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. It comes in 5 variants – Super, Smart, Sharp, Sharp (6-seater) and Savvy (6-seater) – priced at Rs 28.98 lakh, Rs 30.98 lakh, Rs 33.68 lakh, Rs 33.98 lakh and Rs 35.38 lakh respectively. One must note that these are introductory prices and valid up to 31st October, 2020.

The SUV has been offered with turbo and twin-turbo versions of the 2.0L diesel engine generating power worth 163bhp with 375Nm and 218bhp with 480Nm respectively. Transmission duties are done by an 8-speed automatic gearbox. While the single turbo motor can be had with 2WD, the twin-turbo engine comes with 4WD. MG claims that the Gloster is India’s first luxury SUV to offer level 1 autonomous technology (ADAS) along with features such as iSmart with over 70 features, PM 2.5 filter, wireless charging and many more.

3. Kia Sonet

Kia Sonet is the latest offering from the South Korean carmaker in the country. The subcompact SUV model lineup comes in Tech Line and GT Line formats, five trims and 18 variants. Prices of its petrol variants start from Rs 6.71 lakh for the HTE base model and go up to Rs 12.89 lakh for the GTX+ DCT model. The diesel Sonet is available in the price range of Rs 8.05 lakh – Rs 12.89 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.

Kia’s new compact SUV shares its powertrains with the Hyundai Venue – i.e. 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol (82bhp/113Nm), 1.0L turbo petrol (118bhp/172Nm) and 1.5L turbo diesel (99bhp with172Nm and 113bhp with 245Nm).There are five gearboxes on offer – 5-speed manual (NA petrol), 6-speed manual (diesel), 6-speed automatic (diesel), iMT (turbo-petrol) and 7-speed DCT automatic (turbo petrol). Kia Sonet offers several segment leading features including 10.25-inch HD infotainment system, 7-speaker Bose sound system with mood lights, Smart Pure Air Purifier with virus protection system, ventilated front seats and more.

4. New-Gen Hyundai i20

Hyundai’s popular hatchback – i20 – is ready to enter into its third generation in November, 2020. The model will witness noticeable changes inside and out along with a new set of engines. The hatchback’s new-generation model will come with 1.0L turbo petrol with 7-speed DCT gearbox, 1.5L turbo diesel with manual and automatic gearboxes and 1.2L petrol with manual transmission.

One of the major attractions of the 2020 Hyundai i20 will be its new 10.25-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The hatchback will also receive Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car technology and Bose premium sound system with 7/8-speakers and a sub-woofer. The new i20 will feature Hyundai’s new design language along with significant design changes.

5. New-Gen Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Maruti Suzuki will roll out the new-generation Celerio during this festive season. Ahead of its official launch, we have seen the model in camouflaged spy pictures revealing minor design details. Compared to the current generation, the new one will be bigger and higher. Its wheelbase might also be increased. That means, the entry-level hatchback will have more cabin space to offer.

The 2020 Maruti Celerio will ditch the existing platform for Suzuki’s new Heartect architecture that will aid to its handling, safety and NVH levels. The new-generation model has more SUV-ish stance with updates like new projector headlamps with LED DRLs, newly-designed alloys, more prominent bumpers and revised LED taillamps. It might also get Suzuki’s SmartPlay Studio infotainment system with latest smartphone connectivity. The list of features might also include new seat upholstery, a reverse camera and a few more goodies.
