The second-generation Mahindra Thar has finally been launched in India. Prices of the off-road SUV start from Rs 9.80 lakh for the entry-level model and go up to Rs 13.75 lakh for the top-end variant. All prices are ex-showroom, Pan India. Along with the price announcement, the carmaker has started accepting bookings for the new 2020 Mahindra Thar. Interested buyers can pre-book the vehicle online or by visiting any Mahindra dealership at an initial sum of Rs 21,000. Deliveries of the SUV will begin from 1st November, 2020.

Engines, Gearboxes
One of the major highlights of the new-generation Thar is its engine and gearbox options. For the very first time, the SUV has been made available with petrol motor and an automatic transmission. Both engines can be had either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. One must note that the entry-level AX variant doesn’t get petrol engine and automatic gearbox. The more expensive LX variant comes with petrol-automatic, diesel-automatic and diesel-manual combinations.
Off-road Features
Compared to its predecessor, the new 2020 Mahindra Thar has better approach (42 degree), departure (37 degree) and ramp over (27 degree) angles. A 4X4 drivetrain system and a manual shift transfer case with a low ratio are standard across the engine options. It stands on a 226mm ground clearance and has a water wading depth of 650mm. Colours, Roof Top Options
The new Mahindra Thar 2020 has been made available in 6 colour options that vary variant-wise. Buyers can choose from Rocky Beige, Red Rage, Mystic Copper, Aquamarine, Galaxy Grey and Napoli Black shades.

Mahindra’s all-new Thar comes with a host of new features including LED DRLs, factory-fitted hard top, front facing rear seats, a twin-pod instrument cluster with colour MID, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and navigation, automatic climate control, roof mounted speakers, and cruise control. Safety
On the safety front, the 2020 Mahindra Thar offers dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with a display, central locking and manual inside day-night rear view mirror as standard fitments. Features such as electronic stability programme (ESP) with rollover mitigation, brake locking off, tyre direction and tyre pressure monitor, Isofix child seat mounts, hill start and descent assist, roll cage, follow-me-home headlamps and speed sensing front door locks are exclusively offered on the LX trim.
