The long-awaited MG Gloster full-sized SUV has finally been launched in the Indian market. Available in 4 trim levels – Super, Sharp, Smart and Savvy – the new Gloster is priced at Rs 28.98 lakh (ex-showroom). Interested buyers can book the SUV online or via dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.

The Gloster is available in 4 trim levels – Super, Sharp, Smart and Savvy – and in total of 5 variants. The entry-level model is priced at Rs 28.98 lakh, while the top-spec model costs Rs 35.38 lakh. Note – prices are introductory and valid up to Rs October 31, 2020.

The MG Gloster is equipped with the brand’s iSmart connected car technology, which now offers 70 advanced features. Some of the features include i-Smart App on Apple iWatch, Anti-theft immobilizer, Maps by Mapmyindia, Low battery alert at ignition ON, AI based VR system for vehicle, critical tyre pressure voice alert, song search via voice commands in Ganna, remote seat heating ON/Off, remote all windows Open/Close, engine start alarm, over speed warning and many more.

The new Gloster comes fitted with BorgWarner transfer case along with real time intelligent 4WD drive train. This system is claimed to offer top class torque control and distribution. The All-Terrain System comes with 7 drive modes including – SNOW, SAND, ECO, MUD, AUTO, ROCK and SPORT.
5. Engine Specifications
The company is offering two diesel engine options with the new MG Gloster – a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel and a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel. While the former is good for 163PS of power and 375Nm of torque, the twin-turbocharged unit produces 218PS and 480Nm of torque. Both powertrains are coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Gloster with 163bhp, 2.0L engine comes with 2WD system, the 2.0L twin-turbo unit gets 4WD drivetrain.
6. Seating Options
The new Glotser is available in 6-and 7-seat layouts. The entry-level Super trim is offered with 7-seat layout, while the Smart trim comes with the six-seater layout only. The Sharp trim is offered in both 6-and 7-seat options, while the top-end Savvy variant has the 6-seater layout.

The new MG Gloster is fitted with over 30 standard safety and security features – 6 Airbags, 360 around view camera, driver fatigue reminder system, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), traction control system (TCS), ABS with EBD and brake assist, heated ORVM, automatic vehicle hold, EDL (Electro-Mechanical Differential Lock), Hill Hold Control (HHC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Roll Movement Intervention (RMI), Electric Parking Brake with Autohold, etc.
8. Design Highlights
The new Gloster is basically the re-badged Maxus D90, which is on sale in China. Some of the design highlights include octagonal chrome MG grille, LED tail-lights, steering assist cornering lamps, dual-barrel twin chrome exhaust, LED headlamps with auto leveling, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs with integrated blinkers, and diamond cut alloys.

The Gloster is claimed to be positioned as a premium alternative to the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. It comes equipped with several segment-leading comfort and convenience features. Few of the features include Panoramic sunroof, 12 way power adjustable driver’s seat, 8-way power adjustable co-driver seat, seat heating for front occupants, PM 2.5 filter, ORVM with auto tilt in reverse, ORVM memory, rain sensing wipers, electronic gear shift with auto park, wireless charging, driver seat massage, ventilation and memory functions, Intelligent smart-stop system, hands free tailgate with kick gesture, TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), etc.

The MG Gloster comes fitted with segment-largest 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support along with MG’s i-Smart connected car technology with 70+ features. The SUV is claimed to offer high quality audio system with 12 speakers. Adding to it, the system also supports Ganna app with song search via Voice Command.
11. Interior Highlight
The Gloster’s base Super variant has black interior scheme, while the rest offers luxury brown with diamond stitch pattern theme. Similarly, the base model gets leatherette upholstery with fabric inserts, and the higher variants get leather upholstery. The SUV gets 8-inch MID (Multi-Information Display), 64 interior Ambient Lighting options, LED interior lights, illuminated scuff plates, slid and recline second and third row seats, 3 zone automatic climate control (Manual AC in entry-level variant), push button engine start/stop with smart entry, 3 USB charging slots and 4 12V ports, multi-functional steering wheel, 6 cup holders, one-touch up/down with anti-pinch for all power windows, etc.
12. Dimensions
The new Gloster measures 4,985mm in length, 1,926mm in width and 1,867mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,950mm. The SUV offers 75-litres of fuel tank. The SUV rides on 19-inch alloy wheels shod with 255/55 section tyres.
13. Gloster Colours
– The new model is available in 4 exterior colour options – Agate Red, Metal Black, Metal Ash and Warm White.
14. MY MG Shield Plan
The company is offering 3 years standard warranty, 3 years labour free service and 3 years roadside assistance with the new Gloster. Interestingly, MG is also giving an additional Rs 50,000 which customers can use to upgrade MG MG Shield Plan or buy accessories, value added services and merchandise.
