Top 5 Best-Selling Cars in May 2020: Hyundai Creta Tops

2020 Hyundai Creta Milege

The new Hyundai Creta beats Kia Seltos and other Maruti Suzuki cars to become the top-selling car in May 2020.

Due to coronavirus pandemic, auto sales were put on hold for almost 2 months in India. However, the country is slowly opening and automakers have started operating manufacturing facilities as well as dealerships. The May 2020 sales were not very encouraging for most of the brands, though the list of the best-performing cars in India is finally out.

2020 Hyundai Creta Price List

This is for the first time in decades that no Maruti Suzuki product has topped the top selling cars chart. In May, the new generation Hyundai Creta was the best-selling model with 3,212 units delivered to customers.

Hyundai Creta – 3212
Maruti Ertiga – 2353
Maruti Dzire – 2215
Mahindra Bolero – 1715
Maruti Eeco – 1617

Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga MPV and the Dzire secured second and third position respectively. Maruti Suzuki delivered 2353 units of the Ertiga and 2215 units of the Dzire in May 2020. Adding to it, Mahindra sold 1,715 units of the popular Bolero SUV to secure 4th position in the list of top 5 best-selling cars. Maruti Suzuki Eeco grabs fifth position with 1617 units sold in May 2020.

Best Mileage 7-Seater Cars

The new-generation Hyundai Creta has recorded over 24,000 bookings during lockdown, which shows the popularity and demand for the new model. The SUV directly rivals the Kia Seltos, which has also been updated with new features. The new Creta is available in 3 engine options – a 113bhp, 1.5-litre NA petrol, a 113bhp, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel and a 138bhp, 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual, a CVT with petrol, a 6-speed torque convertor with diesel and a 7-speed DCT with 1.4L turbocharged petrol.

The diesel model accounted for close than 55 per cent of the total bookings, which is unprecedented in the times when diesel demands are going down. Losing the top-spot in the sales chart is a set-back for the Indo-Japanese brand. However, Maruti Suzuki has robust dealership network and the company is hoping to grab the top-spot again.
