The demand for petrol cars are on rise, thanks to rising diesel prices in India. However, diesel is still popular among buyers with high daily runs. The biggest emission change, the BSVI emission norms has already been implemented in our country. Thanks to stringent emission norms, cars are now cleaner and more efficient than the BS4 models. Due to new emission norms, several automakers have decided to completely seize diesel car production. However, few makers are still offering small diesel cars. In this article, we bring you a list of top 10 diesel cars that you can buy under Rs 10 lakhs in India –

1. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

Hyundai has decided to continue to offer small diesel cars in our market. The company’s latest generation Grand i10 Nios is one of the most affordable diesel cars currently on sale in India. The hatchback is powered by a BSVI compliant 1.2-litre diesel engine that is capable of producing 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. The diesel i10 Nios is claimed to return a certified fuel economy of 25.1kmpl. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is available in the price bracket of Rs 7 lakh to Rs 8.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Hyundai replaced the Xcent sedan in the passenger vehicle segment with the all-new Aura. Based on the Grand i10 Nios, the Hyundai Aura gets all-new design and new set of engines. Similar to the hatchback sibling, the compact sedan gets segment-leading features. It also shares the 1.2L diesel engine with the i10 Nios. Both manual and AMT versions are on offer with claimed fuel efficiency of 25.4kmpl. The Hyundai Aura base diesel is priced at Rs 7.74 lakh, while the top-end model costs Rs 9.23 lakh.

3. Honda Amaze

Honda had launched BSVI compliant Amaze sedan in the country in January 2020. The new model looks similar to the previous model, but it gets the BSVI compliant 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. The diesel engine is capable of producing 99bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. The diesel Amaze is claimed to return 24.7kmpl in MT and 21kmpl in CVT. The diesel version is priced between Rs 7.56 lakh and Rs 9.96 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

4. Tata Altroz

Tata Motors had launched the new Altroz premium hatchback in the country in January 2020. The new model also marks the debut of Tata’s new ALFA modular platform, which will also underpin the HBX micro SUV. Positioned against the likes of the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai i20, the new Tata Altroz is available with BSVI compliant 1.2L petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. The diesel engine produces 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The hatchback is available in the price bracket of Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 9.29 lakh.

5. Ford Aspire

It is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that also powers the Ford Figo, Freestyle and the EcoSport. This engine is capable of producing 99bhp of power and 215Nm of torque. It is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 24.4kmpl. The base diesel is priced at Rs 7.49 lakh, while the top-spec model costs Rs 8.34 lakh.

The SUV’s updated model comes in three variants – B4, B6 and B6 (O) – priced at Rs 7.98 lakh, Rs 8.64 lakh and Rs 8.99 lakh respectively. It is powered by a 1.5L mHawk75 diesel engine producing 75bhp. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

A total of 3 diesel Venue variants – E, S and SX – are available under Rs 10 lakh. While the E variant is tagged at Rs 8.09 lakh, the S and SX are priced at Rs 9 lakh and 9.99 lakh respectively.

While the XE is tagged at Rs 8.44 lakh, the XM and XMA AMT costs Rs 9.19 lakh and Rs 9.74 lakh respectively.
