MG ZS EV

Amid of the supply chain constraints due to COVID-19 outbreak, MG Motor India has registered total sales of 710 units in May, 2020. The company has already resumed production at Halol based manufacturing plant with around 30% of capacity utilization. Around 65% of the MG showrooms and service stations have been reopened across the nation. Besides, the carmaker has introduced the MG ZS Electric SUV in six new cities including Chandigarh, Jaipur, Surat, Pune, Cochin and Chennai.

MG ZS EV is first electric SUV from the British carmaker that was initially made available in five cities – Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The SUV comes in two variants – Excite and Exclusive – priced at Rs 20.88 lakh and Rs 23.58 lakh respectively. Powering the SUV is a 44.5kWh, liquid-cooled battery and an IP-67 certified lithium-ion battery pack. It offers three drive modes and three levels of regenerative braking.

MG ZS EV Launch Date

The SUV’s permanent magnet synchronous motor delivers a peak power of 143bhp and 353Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels through a single-speed automatic gearbox. It’s claimed to do 0 to 100kmph in 8.5 seconds. The MG ZS EV’s battery can be charged up to 80% in 50 minutes via 50kW DC fast chargers. Using a 7.4kW AC charger, one can replenish its battery within 6-8 hours.

If reports are to be believed, MG Motor is considering petrol iteration of the ZS SUV for the Indian market. The MG ZS petrol was showcased at this year’s Auto Expo and is reported to launch in early 2021. Globally, the SUV is offered with two engine options – the naturally aspirated 1.5L petrol and 1.0L turbocharged petrol. While the former makes 104bhp against 141Nm, the latter is good for 109bhp and 160Nm. In coming months, the British carmaker will roll out the MG Hector Plus 6/7-seater SUV and the MG Gloster 7-seater premium SUV.
