Recently, Tata Motors announced its plan to launch multiple electric cars with minimum range of 500km and advanced technologies in the next 2-3 years. The upcoming Tata EVs will be based on three different platforms – IC to EV conversion models, Gen 2 (Sigma) and Gen (Born Electric skateboard architecture). The Tata Cruvv based mid-size SUV coupe will be designed on the Gen 2 platform, while the production-ready Tata Avinya electric SUV will underpin the Gen 3 architecture.

Talking the first category (IC to EV conversion), the EV range will offer range of around 250km. It will include Athe electric iteration of the Altroz premium hatchback and Punch mini SUV. Recently, the Tata Safari SUV was caught on camera featuring green license plate that hints to its electric version. Though, there is no official word on its launch plan. Rumour has it that it could be the third-party work.

Currently, the Tata Safari is available with a 2.0L Kryotech diesel engine that pushes out a peak power of 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. The carmaker has been testing the Safari petrol for a while. The SUV’s new petrol model is likely to use Tata’s new 1.5L turbocharged engine with the 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options. It will be the more powerful version of the Nexon’s 1.2L turbo petrol motor. The Tata Safari petrol is likely to deliver power close to 160bhp and 250Nm of torque.

The next big launch from Tata could be the Altroz EV with the updated Ziptron electric technology. The home-grown carmaker will also give a mid-life update to its highly popular Tata Harrier SUV. The facelifted version might get a 360 degree camera, an updated infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting and electronic parking brake. The SUV could also be offered with the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite.
