Tata Harrier Rear Profile

Tata Harrier SUV will officially go on sale in India in January 2019.

Tata Motors is all set to kick-start the media activities for its much-awaited flagship SUV – the Tata Harrier. For the past one month, Tata has been releasing teaser videos of the SUV. Now, the rear profile of the SUV has been revealed for the first time by the automaker in a new set of images.

The Tata Harrier is built on the new OMEGA ARC platform, which is derived from the Land Rover’s D8 architecture. In fact, the Harrier dimensions are also similar to the Land Rover Discovery Sport, which is built on the D8 platform. The Harrier will be bigger than its rivals including Hyundai Creta and the Jeep Compass.

Tata Harrier Front

The Tata Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre KRYOTEC diesel engine, which is sourced from FCA. This engine is basically the re-engineered 2.0-litre MJD unit that powers the Jeep Compass SUV. Originally, this engine produces 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. However, Tata has detuned the powertrain for better fuel economy. It is expected to produce close to 140bhp of power and 320Nm of torque.

The SUV will offer multiple driving modes and a six-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will be offered as standard. It is also likely to receive a 6-speed automatic option on a later stage. Tata is also working on the 7-seater SUV based on the Harrier, which is likely to receive the more powerful version of the engine. It will also come with all-wheel-drive layout and automatic option.

In terms of pricing, the Harrier is expected to cost somewhere around Rs 13 lakh – Rs 18 lakh. The 5-seater Harrier is claimed to be equipped with several segment leading features including a cooled glovebox under the driver armrest, an 8.8-inch touchscreen unit, etc. The top-spec model will have multiple safety options like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold assist, reverse parking camera, etc.

Interested buyers can pre-book this SUV at a token amount of Rs 3000 across all Tata Motors dealerships in India. The Harrier will officially go on sale in January 2019.
