The Mahindra Inferno or XUV300 will be equipped with several segment-first features.

It is no secret that Mahindra will soon launch a sub-4 meter SUV – codenamed S201 – in India. Previous media reports claim that the small SUV could be called Mahindra Inferno, though Mahindra is yet to make an official announcement. The SUV is built on SsangYong’s X100 platform, which also underpins the Tivoli SUV. Ahead of the official launch in Q1, 2019, interior details of the SUV have been revealed via a new spy image.

The picture clearly reveals that the Mahindra Inferno or XUV300 gets a multi-functional steering wheel, dual-tone black and beige theme for the dashboard and a touchscreen unit integrated into the centre console. The SUV also offers several storage spaces, a USB port and automatic climate control. The cabin design seems shared with the Tivoli, though there are changes based on the Indian buyers taste.

The new Mahindra XUV300 SUV is reportedly to be the most powerful in its category. It will mark the debut of brand’s all-new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which could offer up to 140bhp of power. The diesel version will receive the 1.5-litre diesel engine that also powers the Marazzo. This engine is capable of producing 121bhp of power and 300Nm of torque.

A six-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard. The company could also introduce the AMT unit as an option on both engines. Mahindra could reveal the SUV in December 2018, while launch could take place in January 2019.

Mahindra is already selling the TUV300 in the sub-4 meter SUV category, but Inferno will be the brand’s first monocoque, FWD sub-4 meter SUV in India. With this SUV, Mahindra aims to improve its sales in the urban INdia. The Inferno is likely to be much more refined and comfortable than the TUV300. For people not in the know, the SsangYong Tivoli sits above 4 meter in length. Mahindra has shortened the length to make it a sub-4 meter SUV. The company is also working on a longer 7-seater version of the SUV, which is expected to arrive in late 2019 or early 2020. The new SUV will meet the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program norms.

The Mahindra Inferno SUV is also expected to offer several segment-leading features like 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, factory fitted sunroof, dual-zone climate control, reverse parking camera, all-disc brakes, traction control, ESP, hill hold assist, etc.
