Tata Altroz Turbo Bookings Open At Dealership Level

Select Tata dealers have started accepting pre-bookings for the upcoming Tata Altroz turbo petrol model at a token sum of Rs 5,000. Official booking details, however, are yet to be announced by the carmaker. Prices of the turbo-petrol version are scheduled to be revealed on 13th January 2021. Once launched, it will be placed against the Hyundai i20 turbo and Volkswagen Polo 1.0 TSI. The new turbo motor is likely to be offered in higher trims only.

For power, the new Tata Altroz turbo petrol will use a 1.2L turbocharged engine that also does duty in the Nexon subcompact SUV. However, it has been detuned for generating power around 110bhp. The same motor in the Nexon offers 120bhp and 170Nm of torque. Transmission on offer will be a 5-speed manual unit.

Reports suggest that the carmaker might also introduce a new 7-speed DCT (dual clutch transmission) automatic gearbox on the hatchback lineup. The same unit will also be offered on Tata’s other compact cars. Save for the ‘Turbo’ badging at the rear, the Altroz turbo will look exactly similar to the regular model. The new variant will also come in a new dual-tone colour scheme – Blue with Black roof.

In other news, Tata Motors will unveil the all-new Gravitas 6/7-seater SUV on 26th January 2021. The SUV, which is essentially the bigger version of the Harrier, will take head-to-head against the new-generation Mahindra XUV500. The latter one is due for the early 2021. After the Tata Gravitas, the home-grown carmaker will bring in the Tata HBX concept based mini SUV.

Design and styling of the upcoming Tata mini SUV will be inspired by the Harrier, especially its front end. It will be based on the Alfa platform that also underpins the Tata Altroz premium hatchback. The HBX will face challenge from cars like Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Mahindra KUV100 and Hyundai’s upcoming AX1 mini SUV.
