It’s been just 40 days, the new-generation Hyundai i20 arrived in the market. Within such shot duration of time, the premium hatchback gained 30,000 bookings including 85% for the range-topping Asta trims and around 10% for the dual-tone variants. The company has delivered 10,000 units of the vehicle so far. Prices of the new Hyundai i20 petrol start from Rs 6.80 lakh (for the entry-level Magna variant) and go up to Rs 11.18 lakh (for the 1.0L Asta petrol DCT). The diesel models, on the other hand, are available in the price range of Rs 8.20 lakh – Rs 10.60 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
The new i20 model lineup comes with two petrol and one diesel engine options. The petrol units include a 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated and 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo pushing out power worth 83bhp with 115nm and 120bho with 172Nm respectively. The 1.2L NA petrol motor can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox, while the 1.0L turbo petrol is available with a 7-speed DCT automatic and an iMT gearbox.
The diesel model is powered by a 100bhp, 1.5L, 4-cylinder engine that’s borrowed from the Venue. It’s paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Hyundai claims that the new i20 with 1.2L petrol engine delivers fuel efficiency of 20.35kmpl (manual) – 19.56kmpl (automatic). The 1.0L turbo petrol promises mileage of 20.25kmpl with the DCT gearbox and 20kmpl with the iMT unit. The 1.5L oil burner has a claimed fuel economy of 25.2kmpl.
