Tata Altroz Turbo Petrol In New Blue Colour Teased

Tata Altroz turbo petrol variant will be the first launch of 2021 from the home-grown carmaker in the country. Ahead of its launch on 13th January, the carmaker has dropped a teaser video of the hatchback revealing its new Blue colour with Black roof. Visually, the turbo-petrol variant looks exactly similar to the regular model. Though, it’s likely to feature a ‘Turbo’ badging at the rear along with a few minor changes.

The biggest change will be made under the hood. The Tata Altroz turbo petrol will use a 1.2L, 3-cylinder Revotron turbocharged petrol engine with a new DCT (dual-clutch transmission) automatic gearbox. It’s the same motor that does duty in the Tata Nexon, but it will be detuned for making slightly less power. While the Nexon turbo petrol returns a claimed power of 118bhp with 170Nm of torque, the Altroz turbo petrol will be capable of 109bhp and 140Nm of torque.

As mentioned above, the premium hatchback will receive a new 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox sourced from Punch. Reports suggest that its gearshifter and some critical components will be supplied by Lumax and Schafffler respectively. Tata’s new DCT gearbox is claimed to have more sophisticated technology and more affordable than the conventional DCT or torque convertor transmissions.

The upcoming Tata Altroz turbo petrol is likely to be launched at competitive price point. The fully-loaded top-end trim with DCT might be cost below Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). If this happens, the new Altroz variant will become more affordable offering than its arch rival – Hyundai i20 DCT – that costs between Rs 12.37 lakh – Rs 13.12 lakh (all, ex-showroom).

In coming months, Tata Motors will also introduce the new Harrier petrol variant featuring a 1.5L Revotron turbocharged motor. The engine will be boosted with direct injection technology and deliver power around 150bhp. The 2021 Tata Harrier turbo petrol will come with both manual and automatic gearboxes. The same engine will power the upcoming Tata Gravitas SUV that’s due for early 2021.
