MG Hector – Top-Selling SUV In its Segment In 2020

In December 2020, MG Motor India has received 5,000 and 200 bookings for the Hector SUV and ZS electric SUV respectively. It’s the highest booking figures gathered for both models. The British carmaker managed to retail total of 4,010 units last month, accounting a growth of 33% against the same month last year. In calendar year 2020, MG sold over 25,000 units of the Hector (which is highest in the segment) and 1,243 units of the ZS EV. Read – 7-Seat MG Hector Plus Coming Soon

 The company has also revealed that it achieved 77% growth in total sales during the year 2020 over last year, despite the local supply chain constraints. MG Motor will shut down its Halol based manufacturing plant in Gujarat for first 10 days of January 2021 for preventive annual maintenance. The 10 days shut down will surely affect the production along with the supply chain constraints.

The company, however, believes the production process will get back on track by March 2021. It aims to increase MG Gloster’s production that gathered 3,000 bookings so far. The company managed to sell 1,085 units of its new premium 7-seater SUV since its arrival. Speaking on the sales performance, Rakesh Sidana, Director – Sales, MG Motor India, said that the company aims maintain the sales momentum in 2021 as it will enter into more markets.

In coming months, the British carmaker will bring in the petrol iteration of the MG ZS SUV. The new MG SUV will challenge the dominance of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Here, it’s likely to be offered with two petrol engine options – a 1.0L turbo and a 1.3L turbo. The carmaker also aims to foray into the premium MPV segment with the MG G10 that made its public debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. The MPV is likely to come with a 163bhp, 2.0L turbo diesel engine and both manual and automatic gearbox options.
