Tata HBX, the upcoming micro SUV from the home-grown carmaker, is surely one of the much-anticipated car launches of the next year. While the model is slated to hit roads in the first half of 2021, we have seen its multiple spy pictures revealing details of near production version. The spotted model was the production-ready manual variant featuring a floating touchscreen infotainment system integrated on the centre console and a 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel similar to the concept. The AC vents are positioned just below the touchscreen display. While the test mule has black fabric seat, its higher trims might be offered with leather upholstery.
In terms of design and styling, the production-ready Tata HBX will stay close to the concept that broke cover at the 2020 Auto Expo. Its front end will share resemblance to the Harrier 5-seater SUV. The mini SUV will feature ‘Humanity Line’ front grille, split headlamps with LED DRLs and dual-tone bumper. The model will come with dual-tone alloy wheels and teardrop shaped wraparound taillamps.
Based on Tata’s Alfa platform, the HBX will be made available with a 1.2L petrol engine making power worth 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. A 1.2L turbo engine might also be on offer. Though, it could be reserved for the higher trims. The new Tata mini SUV model lineup can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
The production-ready HBX mini SUV will carry a different nameplate. Reports suggest it might be christened ‘Tata Timero’. Once launched, it will be placed against the cars like Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Mahindra KUV100 and the upcoming Hyundai AX1 micro SUV. Prices of the new Tata micro SUV are likely to start from Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom).
