New-generation Mahindra XUV500 might share its design bits and platform with the new SsangYong Korando.

2020 SsangYong Korando, the premium SUV from the Korean carmaker, has finally been unveiled at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. The SUV features “an all-new contemporary exterior design, a refined, premium quality and spacious interior, enhanced driver assistance and safety systems, plus state-of-the-art connectivity”.  The SUV’s new model will first arrive in Korea early this year, followed by European markets by mid 2019. Read – Mahindra’s New SUV Based on SsangYong Tivoli XLV in the Works

Compared to the previous model, the 2020 SsangYong Korando is longer, wider and lower. It measures 4452mm in length, 1870mm in width and 1620 in height with a wheelbase of 2675mm. The SUV has a cargo space of 551-litres with all seats in position and up to 1248-litres with the rear seats folded.

With its “highly contemporary look” and “extremely practical design”, the 2020 SsangYong Korando will appeal buyers of all ages. The SUV’s new model features strongly sweptback headlamps, snub-nosed bumper, sporty C-pillar and sculptured side lines. Besides the design bits, the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 is likley to share its platform with the new-gen SsangYong Korando. As the newly-launched Mahindra XUV300 shares its platform and styling elements with the SsangYong Tivoli compact SUV. For power, the new Mahindra XUV500 might use a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine developed jointly by Mahindra and SsangYong.

Globally, the 2020 SsangYong Korando will be made available with an all-new 1.5L GDI turbo petrol and an updated 1.6L diesel engine. While the former makes 163PS with 280Nm, the latter one delivers 136PS with 324Nm. Both powertrain will come with a 6-speed manual and AISIN automatic gearbox options along with automatic start/stop feature on 2WD models.
