Tata Motors emerged as India’s second largest passenger vehicle (PV) automaker in December 2021 with wholesales of 35,300 units and retail sales of 40,000 units. In fact, the home-grown automaker recorded its highest ever quarterly sales in October – December 2021 and its highest annual sales. In order to maintain the sales growth, the company is planning to roll out four new models including Tiago and Tigor CNG variants, Altroz automatic and updated Nexon EV with long-range. Here’re key details of the soon-to-be-launched Tata cars.
Tata Tiago CNG & Tigor CNG
The company is ready to bring in its first CNG-powered vehicles in the country. While official bookings of both models have been commenced, their launch will take place in coming days (January 2022). Interested buyers can pre-book the vehicles by paying a sum between Rs 5,000 – Rs 20,000. The upcoming Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG will come with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine paired to a factory-fitted CNG kit. The gasoline motor makes power worth 86bhp with 113Nm of torque. Save for the CNG badges, no changes will be made to their design.
Tata Altroz Automatic
Tata Motors has confirmed that the company will soon expand the Altroz model lineup with new automatic variant. At present, the hatchback comes with three engine options – 1.2L Revotron petrol (85bhp/113Nm), 1.5L Revotorq diesel (89bhp/200Nm) and 1.2L iTurbo petrol (108bhp). All three motors are available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The upcoming Tata Altroz automatic might be equipped with the DCT (dual clutch automatic) gearbox paired to a 1.2L turbo petrol motor. Compared to its manual counterpart, the new automatic variant will be around Rs 1 lakh more expensive.
Updated Tata Nexon EV
If reports are to be believed, the home-grown automaker will bring in the updated Tata Nexon EV by mid 2022. The new model will feature a bigger 40kWh battery instead of the existing 30.2kWh battery pack. While the former is reported to deliver a range over 400km, the latter offers a claimed range of 312km. With larger battery, the electric SUV will get around 100kg heavier than the existing model. The long-range Nexon EV will take on the Hyundai Kona EV and MG ZS EV.
