Tata Dealers Start Taking Bookings For Tiago CNG, Tigor CNG

Tata Motors is all set to enter the fast growing CNG segment that is currently dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. The homegrown passenger vehicle manufacturer will launch the Tiago CNG and the Tigor CNG in the next few days. In fact, Tata dealers have started accepting bookings for the new models at a token amount of Rs 5,000.

Not just the Tiago CNG and the Tigor CNG, the company is also readying the CNG versions of the Punch, Altroz and the Nexon. These models have already been spotted testing multiple times. The company is also preparing to launch the automatic version of the Altroz. Moreover, Tata will expand its EV line-up by introducing the Altroz EV before the end of 2022.

The Tata Tiago and the Tigor will come with a factory-fitted CNG kits. These models are powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. It is expected that the CNG versions will receive a marginal drop in power and torque. The same 1.2L engine is likely to produce around 70-75bhp power and close to 100Nm of torque.

While the regular variants are offered with manual and AMT gearbox options, the Tiago CNG & the Tigor CNG will only be offered with manual transmission. The new models will look exactly similar to the regular petrol derivatives; however, there will be CNG badging on the tailgate. Expect the CNG variants to cost around Rs 50,000 more than their petrol counterparts.

Maruti Suzuki currently offers a wide range of CNG models starting from the Alto CNG to the Ertiga CNG. The company is also planning to launch the CNG powered Brezza, Swift and the Dzire. Hyundai is also offering CNG variants of the Grand i10 Nios and the Aura. The Tata Tiago CNG will rival the likes of the Maruti WagonR CNG and the Grand i10 Nios CNG. On the other hand, the CNG powered Tigor will rival the Dzire CNG and the Aura CNG.
