Next-gen Fiat Linea spied for the first time

New Fiat Linea Facelift

Fiat, the Italian automaker is working on the next-generation Linea sedan, which has been spotted testing for the first time on international roads. Going by the pictures, the fully covered sedan looks slightly larger than the current car, and is currently put on cold weather testing. If reports are to be believed, the Italian maker is aiming to decrease production costs and make the sedan more profitable in global markets.

It is expected that the next Linea sedan will be based on the Small-Wide Architecture that also underpins the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X. The maker is working on a new family of models that will include a new hatchback and a station wagon. All three models will be developed by Fiat’s Turkish joint venture, Tofas, in 2016.

The overall styling of the sedan is largely similar to the Viaggio sedan, which is currently on sale in China. Under the bonnet is the new Fiat’s turbocharged petrol and diesel unit. According to CarScoops, the Italian maker plans to give the sedan a more upscale feel to increase its sales in Western Europe and other markets. The current generation model is currently available in select developing nations including Brazil and India.
