New-generation Hyundai Verna Launched; Prices Start From Rs 7.99 Lakh

Price of the new-generation Verna falls in the range of Rs 7.99 lakh – Rs 12.61 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

New-generation Hyundai Verna has finally gone on sale in India at an introductory price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The introductory prices will be protected for the first 20,000 customers only. The saloon’s 2017 carline is spread across four trim levels – E, EX, SX and SX (O) – packed with a 1.6L VTVT petrol and CRDi diesel engine options. In the mid-size sedan segment, the new Verna will continue to face challenge from cars like Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Volkswagen Vento.

1. Cheaper Than Before – Despite the new cosmetic and feature updates, the new Verna is slightly less expensive than its previous generation. While the petrol trims of the sedan range from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 12.23 lakh, the diesel variants have been priced from Rs 9.19 lakh to Rs 12.61 lakh (all, ex-showroom Delhi). However, these prices are introductory. The previous model of the sedan (1.6L petrol & diesel) was available within the range of Rs 9.97 lakh – 14.36 lakh (all, ex-showroom Delhi). 2. Only Two Engine Options –While the sedan’s old model was available with four engine options (1.4L & 1.6L petrol and diesel), the new-generation comes with 1.6L VTVT petrol and 1.6L U2 CRDi diesel powertrains. Though, the power and torque figures of both the motors remain unchanged. The petrol mill returns 121bhp against 155Nm and the diesel unit offers 126bhp against 260Nm. 3. Slightly More Fuel Efficient – The third-generation Verna is slightly more frugal than the old generation. The sedan’s new petrol model is capable of delivering fuel economy of 17.70kmpl (MT) and 15.92kmpl (AT) and the diesel version offers a mileage between 24.75kmpl and 21.02kmpl with manual and automatic gearbox respectively. On the other hand, the old Verna provides fuel efficiency between 15.9kmpl – 24kmpl.

4. Bigger & More Spacious – Compared to the old model, the new Verna is longer and wider by 65mm and 29mm respectively. In fact, it’s more spacious from inside as well. The 2017 version measures 4,440mm long, 1,729mm wide and 1,475mm tall as against the old model which was 4,375mm in length, 1,700mm in width and 1,475mm in height. 5. New Strong Platform – The new Verna continues using Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy. Though, it sits on a new K2 platform made up of high-strength steel that makes it more rigid and stiffer than before. This also aids to the overall handling and drivability of the car.

6. Premium Look – Face of the 2017 model looks quite refreshing with projector headlamps, LED DRLs, pentagonal LED fog lamps and air dams, sculpted bumper and bonnet.  The entry-level E and EX trims feature 15-inch steel wheels and EX AT trim gets 15-inch alloys with 185/65 R15 tyres. The high-spec S and SX (O) models comes with larger diamond cut 16-inch alloys shod with 195/55 R16 tyres. Exterior updates such as LED turn indicators, clacked-out C-pillar, a sloping roofline and new roof spoiler make it look more premium than the old one. 7. Safety Package – The third-generation Verna receives dual front airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBS (electronic brake-force distribution) as standard fitments. The sedan gets disc brakes at front and rear axles. Features such as ISOFIX child seat anchors, immobilizer and central locking system are also available from the base model. 8. Loaded Cabin – One of the major changes comes in the form a large 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with app-based navigation and voice recognition. Though, the base model of the car is available with a smaller 5.0-inch TFT LCD instrument display with Arkamys sound system. The top-end SX (O) trim is exclusively offered with Auto Link smartphone app, leather upholstery and door center trim and adjustable rear seat headrests.

9. New Vibrant Shades – Hyundai has offered the new Verna in a choice of four new colour options – Flame Orange, Siena Brown, Polar White and Fiery Red. The sedan is also available in the regular Stardust, Sleek Silver and Phantom Black shades.
