The new generation Santro is expected to come loaded with a bunch of comfort, connectivity and safety features.

Hyundai spearheaded into the Indian market towards the end of 1990s with its Santro hatchback that became a rage in no time. After a successful 16-year run, Hyundai’s popular hatchback was taken off production in 2015. The company is however planning to re-launch Santro in India to take on the likes of Renault Kwid and Tata Tiago in the entry-level hatchback segment. Reports in media suggest a new-generation Santro could be launched in India sometime next year. While reports have been emerging on resurrecting Santro, a spy shot of a test mule that appears to be the new-gen Santro has surfaced online. The spied model was caught testing on the Salem-Chennai highway near Attur.

Unlike the predecessor, the new Santro is expected to come loaded with a bunch of comfort, connectivity and safety features. Larger proportions will help carve out more space for the occupants inside. To ensure it matches up the success received by its predecessor, Hyundai has conducted copious research at its R&D centre in South Korea. The company is said to have invested INR 1,000 crore on the development of new Santro. Also Read- Upcoming Hyundai Cars In India

Engine choices on the new Santro are likely to include the 800cc or the 1.0-litre petrol engine. Transmission options could include an automatic gearbox and an AMT unit. The new Hyundai Santro could have its global preview at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo early next year in February followed by a launch later that year (H2 2018).

With radical design and styling changes, mechanical updates and additional kit, expect the all-new Santro to be priced between Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. Hyundai will make India the mother plant for the new-generation Santro and export it overseas markets.
