Production of the third-generation Hyundai i20 premium hatchback has been commenced in Turkey at the carmaker’s Izmit based plant. The South Korean carmaker has confirmed that over 90% of the new i20 produced at its Turkey facility will be exported to the European market.
The factory will produce around 85,000 units of the hatchback on annual basis and cover about 50% of its global production. Talking about its India launch, the 2020 Hyundai i20 is reported to hit roads in the month of October (i.e. near around this Diwali season).
The premium hatchback has witnessed significant changes inside and out. In fact, the new-generation model will receive a 48V mild hybrid system ensuring better fuel efficiency and reduced emissions by 3 to 4%. The 48V unit is likely to be coupled with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder T-GDI turbo petrol engine that tuned for generating two different power outputs – 100PS and 120PS. As of now, there is no official on its India arrival. Here’s the new-generation i20 is likely to be offered with 1.2L petrol, 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options.
The 2020 Hyundai i20 looks more evolved and premium than its predecessor, thanks to Hyundai’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. Upfront, the hatchback carries a large, blacked-out cascading grille with a diamond pattern mesh finish, headlamps lined with LED DRLs and triangular-shaped fog lamp assembly. The newly-designed dual-tone alloy wheels, a chrome garnish on the windowline and large taillamps with angular Z-shaped LED elements add more to its sporty appeal. Comprehensive changes have also been made inside the cabin. The new Hyundai i20 features a four-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel as we have seen in the new Creta.
Some of its key highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a full digital instrument cluster, ambient interior lighting, Bose audio system, multi-contoured seats with contrast stitching, Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car technology and more.
