We informed you earlier that Hyundai is readying an all-new global MPV, which is rumoured to be called the Custo. The new MPV won’ have any relation with the new Kia Carnival and will have completely different design.
Media reports from China claims that the new Hyundai Custo will be jointly developed by Beijing Hyundai and BAIC Motor. The new MPV will be available as a six-seater MPV; however, there will be enough room for up to 7 passengers.
The spy images reveal that the Hyundai Custo features all-new design, which seems unique and unusual. Upfront is a massive cascading grille, which we have already seen on latest Hyundai models including the Santa Fe. However, the headlamp design is all new and different from regular Hyundai’s. The new Hyundai Custo features black side skirts, large wheel arches and black plastic cladding on the lower side of the doors to offer rugged feel. There are strong creases and sharp lines all around the body, which gives it a busy design.
The MPV looks longer from the side profile. At the back, the new Hyundai Custo has tinted tail-lights, LED light bar connecting the two tail-lamps, and a roof spoiler. The new Hyundai Custo shares the interior with the new Sonata MPV, featuring four-spoke steering wheel and gear selector buttons. It features a fully digital instrument console and a large portrait touchscreen infotainment system.
The upcoming Hyundai Custo will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 237bhp and 353Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The new MPV is scheduled to be launched in China this October.
The new Custo is not likely to arrive in our market. The company has already started testing an all-new compact MPV in South Korea. This model is expected to be based on the Creta’s platform and will be positioned against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Mahindra Marazzo.
