Hyundai’s Ioniq To Turn Into An Electric Sub-Brand

Korean automaker, Hyundai is set to introduce an all-new sub-brand for electric vehicles (EV) called Ioniq. Hyundai is planning to introduce a wide range of models including all-electric SUVs and a sedan under the new Ioniq nameplate.

Hyundai will launch an all-new mid-size all-electric SUV, called the Ioniq 5 in early 2021. The company will also launch an all-new electric sedan Ioniq 6, which will be based on the Prophency concept in 2022. Adding to it, the all-new Ioniq electric vehicle will be launched in 2024.

The new range of Hyundai Ioniq electric cars will be designed and developed on Hyundai’s electric global modular platform (E-GMP). All these electric cars will come with fast charging capability. Hyundai will also introduce hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains for a 5-door car. It is claimed that Hyundai E-GMP platform will allow Hyundai designers to play around with the vehicle interior, including height adjustable seats, wireless connectivity and other unique features.

Hyundai had introduced the Ioniq electric and hybrid cars at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The electric version is equipped with a 38.3kWh battery and an electric motor offering 134bhp and 295Nm. The hybrid version gets a 1.6-litre petrol engine and an electric motor (Offering 43bhp). The hybrid powertrain is coupled to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.
