The new-generation Suzuki S-Cross will make its global debut sometime next year in Europe. The SUV’s new model will receive significant cosmetic and feature upgrades along with the electric powertrain. As of now, details of the 2022 Suzuki S-Cross are scanty. Though, it’s reported to come with the brand’s 1.5L petrol engine benefited with a 48V light hybrid technology (MHEV) and a 1.4L, 4-cylinder Boosterjet motor. The MHEV technology will make the new S-Cross more efficient and cleaner than before.
The 1.4L turbo petrol motor is already offered on the global-spec Swift Sport. The same unit will also be used in the upcoming Jimny LWB (long-wheelbase). Its power and torque outputs stand at 127bhp and 235Nm respectively. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic instead of 4-speed torque convertor gearbox. The 2022 Suzuki S-Cross will also get Suzuki’s 4X4 AllGrip drivetrain system.
The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will also receive a generation change in India sometime in 2023. If reports are to be believed, the SUV’s new model will come with the BS6-compliant 1.5L diesel engine. The updated oil burner is reported to be offered on the bigger models including XL6, new-gen Vitara Brezza SUV, Ertiga MPV and Ciaz sedan. Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming mid-size SUV, that will be co-developed with Toyota, will also be offered with the new diesel motor. Codenamed Maruti YFG, the SUV will also come with the dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The Indo-Japanese carmaker aims to expand its SUV portfolio in coming years. The plan outlines several new models including the 5-door Jimny off-road SUV that’s reported to hit roads by mid 2022. Here, it’s likely to be offered with the 1.5L petrol engine that’s good for 100bhp and 130Nm. Both manual (5-speed) and automatic (4-speed) gearboxes will be on offer. A 1.4L turbo petrol engine with SHVS technology might also be offered on the Jimny model lineup.
