In April 2021, Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) started production at its third manufacturing plant based in Ahmedabad. The facility has an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units. All vehicles that will be produced at SMG plant will be supplied to Maruti Suzuki India. Now, the carmaker has shifted production of its top-selling compact sedan – Dzire – from its Manesar plant to SMG facility in Ahmedabad. It’s said to be done to make space for the upcoming new models. At present, the company produces around 1000 Dzire per day.
Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant will serve as production hub for the new-generation Vitara Brezza that’s due for early 2022. The upcoming 5-door Jimny and new-generation S-Cross crossover will also be produced at the same facility. The Indo-Japanese carmaker has planned a couple of more SUVs including the Baleno based coupe SUV and a mid-size SUV. The latter will be developed under Maruti Suzuki and Toyota joint venture and produced at its Bidadi based plant.
In the latest updates, Maruti Suzuki is getting ready to launch the new-generation Celerio hatchback in coming months (possibly in September 2021). In fact, unofficial bookings for the new model have already been commenced at select dealerships. Compared to the current generation, the new one will carry more angular and modern design, better equipped interior and a more refined 82bhp, 1.2L petrol engine. The existing 1.0L, 3-cylinder K10B petrol motor will also continue to be on offer.
As mentioned above, the second-generation Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will arrive in early 2022. Reports suggest that the subcompact SUV will receive the 1.5L K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine with the stronger hybrid technology and the BS6-compliant 1.5L diesel motor. The new oil burner will also be introduced on the updated Maruti XL6, S-Cross, Ciaz and Ertiga. The new Vitara Brezza will also witness noticeable changes inside and out.
