New-Gen Mahindra Bolero, Scorpio Might Get Mild Hybrid Tech

Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to expand its SUV and EV product portfolio in coming years. The automaker has already planned the Mahindra eKUV100 electric mini SUV and Mahindra eXUV300 electric subcompact SUV for the next year. It has also been working on electric iteration of the newly-launched XUV700 SUV that’s likely to arrive by 2023. There will also be two all-new EVs (W620 and V201) featuring pure electric powertrains.

According to a fresh media report, the Pune-based carmaker might introduce the next-generation Mahindra Bolero and Scorpio with new mild hybrid technology. The new mild hybrid technology will help the company meet the upcoming CAFA (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) and RDE (Real Driving Emission) norms, which are slated to be implemented from 2022. While the official launch timeline of the all-new Bolero is yet to be revealed, the next-generation Scorpio is slated to arrive in early 2022.

With the generation change, the Bolero will switch to the new ladder-on-frame chassis that underpins the new Thar. The same architecture will also be used in the 2022 Scorpio. Reports suggest that the SUV’s new model will be offered with the 2.2L turbo diesel and 2.0L turbo petrol engine options. The carmaker might also use the Marazzo’s 1.5L turbo diesel and new 1.5L turbo petrol motors. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. Significant cosmetic changes and features upgrades are expected to be made to the SUV.
