Mahindra & Mahindra has officially announced to launch 9 new SUVs in the Indian market by 2026. The company will introduce 4 SUVs on the monocoque platform, and 3 new SUVs on the ladder-on-frame chassis and two brand new electric vehicles by 2026. Mahindra has also confirmed that the next-gen Bolero is currently in the works.
Thar Platform
The next-gen Mahindra Bolero will be based on the new ladder-on-frame chassis, which debuted in the new Thar. This platform will also underpin the next-gen Scorpio and the 5-door Thar, which are scheduled to be launched in 2022.
Powerful Engines
The next-gen Mahindra Bolero is most likely to be powered by a new 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which also powers the Thar. While powering the lifestyle SUV, this engine produces 132bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
The company could also use the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine to power the next Bolero. This engine currently powers the Marazzo and the XUV300. It is capable of producing 121bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. The next-gen Mahindra Bolero could also receive a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol or a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engines.
Launch Timeline
Mahindra has confirmed that the next-gen Bolero will be launched between 2023 and 2026. We believe that the launch could take place in 2023-24, as the current model is already 10 years old. The company will soon give a mid-life facelift to the existing Bolero.
Modern Interior
The next-gen Mahindra Bolero will continue to be offered as a practical people mover, which can seat up to 9 adults. However, the SUV will come with more modern and practical cabin with some modern day features. It is likely to get a touchscreen infotainment system, a more powerful AC unit with rear AC vents, adjustable steering wheel, power windows, etc.
Design Details
The next-gen Mahindra Bolero is most likely to retain the current old-school rugged profile, which is very popular in semi-urban and rural India. The top-spec model could also get LED headlamps with LED DRLs, and LED tail-lamps. It is likely to get skid plate, ORVMs with turn indicators and new front grille inspired by the next-gen Scorpio and the XUV500.
