Tata Punch To Come With Multiple Drive Modes; New Teaser

Tata Motors has released a series of teaser videos of the much-awaited Punch subcompact SUV. A new teaser video reveals that the Tata Punch will come equipped with drive modes. It is visible that the Punch micro SUV is standing over rocky terrain, and the teaser with a headline – ‘multiple modes, multiple terrains.’

Details about the drive modes on offer are yet to be revealed, but it is expected to get drive modes available in the Nexon compact SUV. The Tata Nexon offers 3 drive modes – Sport, City and Eco. The ‘Eco’ drive mode is claimed to return a higher fuel efficiency, as the throttle response is adjusted for controlled driving behaviour.

The ‘Sport’ drive mode will offer sporty driving performance, as it uses the full potential of throttle response. The ‘City’ drive mode will give good efficiency as well as performance. The BS4 versions of the Tiago and the Tigor were also equipped with these drive modes, however, Tata removed these modes with the BSVI compliant versions.

The previous teaser reveals that the Tata Punch micro SUV will offer ‘absolute safety’. For people not in the know, the new sub-compact SUV will be based on the new ALFA modular platform that also underpins the Altroz. The Altroz has received 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test, and the Punch is expected to offer the same safety standards.

The new model is expected to be equipped with features like dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, cornering stability control, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder, etc as standard. The higher variants will also get rear parking camera. The vehicle could also get hill descent control and hill start assist features. Expect new model to get traction models such as Rock, Mud, Sand and Snow; however, details are yet to be revealed.

The teaser confirms that the design of the new Tata Punch remains true to its concept. The front design is heavily inspired by the Tata Harrier, as it gets the signature Tata grille, split headlamp set-up, and a bigger bumper that has wider air intakes and round-shaped fog lamps. It gets wrap-around tail-lights, blacked-out pillars, and the rear door handle is integrated into the wide blacked-out C-pillar.

The Tata Punch is likely to come in two engine options – a a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.2L turbocharged petrol. Transmission choices are likely to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. The micro SUV could also receive drive modes.
